Do you or someone you know need help to improve the clarity of your speech?
Following the recent launch of the next phase of Design Together, Live Better, an online citizen innovation platform, our latest project ‘Intelligent Sounds’ is looking for your input!
Intelligent Sounds is a new app to help people practise and improve their speech sounds. The app is aimed at people who have had their speech affected through different health conditions. We are looking for your feedback and help in understand the changes needed to tailor it to different health conditions – for example, post-stroke dysarthria, speech difficulties resulting from Parkinson’s disease, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis or head injuries.
Jenny Dance, a linguist and marketing analyst, develops audio-visual apps to help people analyse, practise and improve speech sounds. Phona’s first app, Say It: Pronunciation from Oxford, was developed in partnership with Oxford University Press to help non-native speakers of English improve their pronunciation. Having suffered episodes of slurred, unintelligible speech due to a neurological problem, Jenny could see the potential for Say It to be used as a speech therapy tool as well.
